In the green house I have seeded cauliflower, cabbages, broad beans, purple flowering broccoli, coriander and trays of nicotiana and cosmos.
Something keeps pulling up my garlic, which is under a cloche, so I know it's not birds, chickens or dogs. I have replanted them all today and seeded x3 rows of carrots.
In the green house I have seeded cauliflower, cabbages, broad beans, purple flowering broccoli, coriander and trays of nicotiana and cosmos. Today was a day to try and tidy up some of the rubbish from the garden, fallen leaves, shreddings from where I cut the hedges and so on. I'm getting there! I also had time to make my friend a sweet pea willow climber. Missy is the brown hen, Hazel is the white Sussex and Matilda is the Black Nera. They all have their own little characters, Matilda is quite shy and doesn't like being picked up. Hazel is so cheeky and comes and pecks me and Missy is the smallest and she always squats down when you go near her. I initially wanted to get Bantams but they don't lay in the winter because there is not enough natural light, so I went with the Hybrids. They each lay an egg everyday, so we have eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner! We moved in, in September 2014, the garden is 0.4 acres. The garden slopes down, with the Drock on the left hand side. This is the area at the bottom of the steps that I made a start at planting out when we first moved in. This area is the start of the Drock, and as you can see it's very muddy, it really needs digging out and the sides built up with stone. The gorgeous little Cocker Spaniel puppy is Rue, she is about 7 months old in this photo. I have cleared much of the ivy that covered the whole bank. At the top of the bank we have replaced the old broken chicken wire with new. This is the boundary fence between our garden and the neighbours. I have started transplanting laurel saplings along the edge to create a living, evergreen hedge. This will hopefully stop the chickens flying over and the dogs going under! Only time will tell...... Having Hazel growing in the garden that needed coppicing, today seemed a good day to make a start on a wigwam for the sweet peas I planted in November. I planted them in November not really expecting much but they up in a couple of weeks. I pinched the tops off several times, potted them on in January, and have produced some healthy looking plants. |
