With a glut of plants I decided to set up stall.
Left 18 plants out with an honesty box, 10 plants gone and £7 in the jar including two empty pots returned. I'm happy with that... Just loving our new garden tool shed, I painted it purple and cream and have even painted the inside..... sad I know but it's so sweet. The shed has been placed right at the bottom of the garden in the Allotment area, it's positioned where the old compost heap was and so using the old pallets from our neighbours we have build a compost bin, with a shelf so I can pot bits on or use it for more plants. And of course I had to paint it to match the shed.
I have sieved the whole pile of compost and its great soil, I have spread about 3 wheelbarrows full on the lawn to fill in holes and we will reseed. Oh yes and that's me pointing at my hook on the outside of the door so I can hang me jacket when I get too hot. Tonight's salad bowl is a mixture of lettuce, spinach, hawthorn, nasturtium, chives and coriander with radish.....yum yum
Another ideas for plant labels, I make these from old, washed out, plastic milk cartons. They are so easy to cut.... It was grandmother who used to make them. We have some very invasive weeds in this garden, the three above are the most invasive, but I also have bindweed and ground elder. It's going to be a busy year trying to keep it all under control. Some of the other weeds like buttercup, daily and dandelions I am allowing a few to grow in the wild garden for the bees and other insects.
Visited Devizes food festival yesterday, there was a stall selling plants and they had decorated spoons at plant markers. I thought this was a lovely idea and set about the charity shops in search of old spoons.......none were to be found. So I am afraid I bought some very cheap ones from WIlko's as I really wanted to make some.
As I was up early this morning! and can you spot the mistake? Fed up with the chickens flying out of their run, so with the help of my neighbour the chickens' wings have been clipped. Walking the dogs this morning I noticed lots of flowers and plants that I recognised, some just because we see them all the time and some that grow in the garden. To name a few: dandelions, buttercups, nettles, Sticky willies (cleavers), cow parsley, Bur Chervil, Common and White Comfrey (Symphytum), Blue bells, Wild garlic (Allium ursineum).and Garlic Mustard, Lords and Ladies (Arum macalatum) and forget me nots, then there were the plants that I recognise because they grow at The Drock, Common Comfrey (symphytum officiale) with pink flowers and White Comfrey (symphytum orientale) white flowers, which I don't have growing in the garden. I picked one of each, some because I didn't know the name of so have brought them home and looked them up, Garlic mustard was a new one on me and you can eat the leaves and root. |
